Where Every Child Finds the Right Place to Thrive

We understand that finding the right placement for a child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, and we’re to support you every step of the way.

Who We Care For

Atlas Children's Homes provides therapeutic residential care for children and young people aged 7–17 with learning disabilities (LD) and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). Each of our two homes accommodates a maximum of two children, creating a small, nurturing environment where we can meet complex needs through highly individualised, trauma-informed care.

Our approach is grounded in the PACE model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy), and we work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic, joined-up support for every child.

Our Referral Process

We believe in planned, thoughtful admissions that give each child the best possible start. Our referral process is designed to ensure compatibility, safety and suitability for all children in our care.

1

Initial Discussion

Contact our Responsible Individual or Registered Manager to discuss the child's needs and explore whether Atlas is the right fit.

2

Formal Referral

Submit a comprehensive referral pack, including care plans, risk assessments, chronology, education plans (including EHCP if applicable), and all relevant background information.

3

Assessment & Matching

We conduct a thorough matching and group dynamic risk assessment to ensure the placement is in the child's best interests and compatible with the needs of any child already in residence.

4

Placement Meeting

A meeting is held with the Registered Manager, social worker and (where appropriate) family members to discuss the placement in detail.

5

Transition Plan

If the placement is agreed, we create a structured transition plan, including introductory visits and overnight stays where possible, to help the child settle in successfully.

Playfulness

We use playfulness to reduce anxiety, build connection and help children engage with the world in a lighter, more positive way.

Acceptance

We accept each child unconditionally, recognising their behaviours as expressions of unmet needs and responding with understanding rather than judgment.

Curiosity

We approach every situation with curiosity, seeking to understand the feelings and experiences behind a child's actions.

Empathy

We lead with empathy, showing children that their emotions matter and that we are here to help them navigate their feelings safely.

Why PACE?

We work closely with social workers, families, therapists and education providers to ensure each child receives holistic, joined-up support. Our clinical psychologist provides regular supervision and therapeutic input to our team, ensuring our practice remains grounded in the latest research and best practice.

Through our therapeutic approach, every child at Atlas is:

  • Supported emotionally through trauma-informed care and consistent relationships

  • Encouraged educationally with personalised plans and dedicated advocacy

  • Listened to compassionately, with their voices shaping their care

  • Prepared for adulthood with practical skills, emotional resilience and ongoing support

  • Surrounded by consistency and care from a team that genuinely believes in them

Safeguarding & Quality Assurance

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. All staff receive comprehensive training in child protection, and we work in line with Norfolk Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures. Our Responsible Individual oversees safeguarding across the organisation, and we maintain rigorous policies, risk assessments and quality assurance processes to ensure the highest standards of care.

We are committed to continuous improvement and welcome feedback, external scrutiny and collaborative working with all professionals involved in a child's care.
